Yubao Katana
This Yuabo
katana can be translated as “Jewel Steel” katana and is made of iron sand
or Tamahagane.
We do believe that
this sword represent the best you can find if you can not afford to pay
a “real” katana made by a licensed swordsmith in Japan. Outside Japan
there are a few good smiths too that are making good katana but expect
to see a pricetag of $4000 and up and a delivery time of 1 year or more..
The fittings on this
sword (fuchi – kashira – menuki) are all imported from japan, as well
as the cotton ito and the sageo. The itomaki (handle wrapping) on this
katana is very tight too so as all of the katanas from the Jewel forge,
they are designed to use. Either for any Japanese sword drawing art or
to perform cutting tests.
The excellent stone
polish (done by Japanese stones) does brings out and enhances all external
details such as the blade it’s shape, geometry, appearance of the hamonline
and grain pattern (hada), etc. The hamon is finished by using the hadori
style This style of polishing is helping to lighten the hamon and make
it stand out against the surrounding areas.
