If you have been
looking for a fine sword for tameshigiri, then this Paul Chen sword should
likely top your list. Paul Chen has always been committed to building
quality swords, and the Tea Culture Katana provides a shining example
of that commitment.
Themed after the
Japanese tea culture, the detail that you can see in this sword will also
make it a great high-end sword for collectors. The tea culture included
elements of kimono, calligraphy, flower arranging, and more. Many of those
elements can be seen in the intricate details of the fittings of this
sword.
The forged and folded blade of the Tea Culture Katana adds both beauty
and function. The blade is polished to a mirror-like finish and prominently
shows the Hammon (temper line). The fine grain of the blade further adds
beauty to this sword.
The Tea Culture Katana as a Collector’s Item
When you look closely at this sword you will find that it will make an
excellent show-piece in your collection. It is different than any other
Paul Chen sword out there. The fine engraved flowers on the copper menuki
(ornaments), for example, which are attached outside of the Ito are unique
to the Paul Chen line. Then there’s the suede leather Ito (better
known as battle wrap) that is also unique to this sword. With its intricate
details and unique style this sword will look good in any collection.
The Tea Culture
Katana as a Functional Sword
Even though it is a beautiful sword, and collectors are going to want
it, where the Tea Culture really stands out is in function. With a weight
of close to 1200 grams and a blade length of 77cm this blade will make
an excellent tameshigiri sword. It is finely balanced 14cm from the Tsuba,
and as a functional sword it should be on your list for your next katana!
