If you were to ask
us for a sword that could withstand the rigors of heavy cutting, at a
great price, it’s very likely that the Practical Pro Katana is the
sword we would recommend.
Paul Chen swords are
known for their quality, and even at its low price that quality shows
with the practical pro.
The blade of this katana is hand-forged (at Paul Chen's hanwei forge)
from high carbon steel. It is then differentially tempered to ensure a
hard edge that can withstand heavy cutting. The hammon line of this sword
has that sheen that is more common on swords that cost twice as much.
Along with its function the Practical Pro Katana has many features that
make it look good as well. Some of those include: antiqued black iron
fittings, a leather wrapped tsuka (handle), a stylized tsuka (guard),
and a deep black saya (scabbard)
The Practical Pro Katana as a Collector’s Item
Even the discerning collector will enjoy having the Practical Pro Katana
in their collection. The differentially tempered blade has a prominent
hammon and the fittings make this one truly stand out. With this sword
in your collection you can rest assured that all who see it will admire
the sword, and you can further rest knowing that you didn’t spend
a lot to get it!
The Practical Pro Katana as a Functional Sword
The practical pro katana is the heaviest sword in the practical line.
As such it won’t be as suitable for Iaido (in which case you should
look at the XL sword), but for rigorous tameshigiri you won’t find
a better value for you money.
